German Shepherds maul 3-year-old girl

The girl was following her mother by bicycle on Saturday afternoon when two German Shepherds, each weighing 20 kg, attacked her from a neighbor’s house.

The dogs mauled her face and ears. The mother and the neighbor rushed to chase the dogs away. The girl was hospitalized with injuries on her face and ears that required stitches.

The dogs have since been locked away by their owner. Local authorities summoned the dogs' owner for further proceedings on Monday.

In May, a 3-year-old boy in An Giang Province in southern Vietnam was severely injured after a German Shepherd attacked him. Previously, an 82-year-old woman in Binh Duong Province near Ho Chi Minh City also died after being attacked by her family’s pitbull.

Dog owners who let their dogs out in public without muzzles or rabies vaccinations can be fined up to VND2 million ($81.41) if the animals cause injuries to others. They can also face criminal charges if their dogs cause damage to 31% or more of a person’s body.
