A cutting-edge primate center for scientific research will be built in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa.

The 18-ha, $11-million Khanh Binh Hi-Tech Primate Farm in the eponymous district will be built in accordance with a memorandum signed Monday between the Khanh Hoa People's Committee, the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute, and the South Korea-based Eco & Tech company.

The project will raise crab-eating macaques and rhesus macaques. It will be the first facility to meet standards as a clinical research organization (CRO) in Vietnam. Every year, the farm will provide the best primate specimens to serve scientific and research purposes.

Investors will also develop a complex for biotechnology and medicine research, along with lab areas equipped with state-of-the-art, innovative technology.

Tran Hoa Nam, vice chairman of the Khanh Hoa People's Committee, said the project aims to help make the coastal province of Khanh Hoa, and Vietnam as a whole, a destination for the world's leading scientists and biotech companies.
