The index closed 12.37 points higher after dropping 14.50 points in the previous session.
Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange decreased by 14% to VND10.460 trillion ($425.98 million).
The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 26 tickers gained.
SSB of Southeast Asia Commercial Bank (SeABank) led with a 4% rise, followed by GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group, up 4%.
SHB of Saigon Hanoi Commercial Bank closed 2.9% higher and BID of state-owned lender BIDV went up 2.5%.
BCM of Becamex Investment and Industrial Development was the only blue chip that fell 0.3%.
Foreign investors were net seller to the tune of VND461 billion, mainly selling MWG of electronics retail chain Mobile World and VHM of property giant Vinhomes.
The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 1.16% while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market gained 0.32%.
