The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong on Thursday afternoon.

Vietcombank sold the dollar at VND25,478, up 0.07% from Wednesday.

The State Bank of Vietnam’s reference rate was stable at VND24,245.

The dollar fell VND25,730 on the black market.

It has increased against the dong by 4.33% since the beginning of the year.

Globally the dollar held mostly steady on Thursday as traders kept their powder dry before next week's U.S. inflation data and what it could portend for Federal Reserve policy, while hawkish opinions from Bank of Japan's members helped the yen slow its fall, Reuters reported.

Against the Japanese yen, the dollar has been slowly inching up in recent days after it fell more than 3% last week, its biggest weekly percentage drop since early December 2022.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was unchanged at 105.51.
