My wife beats me for being unemployed and asking my mom for money

Totally aware of my financial struggles, I only have instant noodles for breakfast and have stopped hanging out with my friends.

I’m 30, my wife is 26, and we have a three-year-old son. I was laid off earlier this year and have been staying home without making any income ever since.

I knew it would be hard for my wife to carry our family solely with her income, so a few months ago I offered to take care of our son to save VND2 million (around $83) a month on his kindergarten fees.

But my wife has been complaining about me staying home and taking care of the kid instead of working.

I often have only two meals a day: brunch at around 10 a.m. and a dinner to save expenses, as our son has his own food.

There was one time when my wife visited home during her lunch break and saw that I did not cook anything for lunch. She shouted at me for that, despite I suggested that I could order something outside for her.

"Where can I get the money to eat out? Do you make any money or do I wholly carry this family," she responded angrily.

She even said that in a tone of voice loud enough for all our neighbors to hear. They have started to look at me as a man who relies on his wife’s support since then.

I got upset, I called my mother and asked if she could lend me some money. I then withdrew the VND10 million she transferred to me and gave it to my wife, but she threw the cash at my face and shouted: "Do you know how cowardly you are for knowing nothing other than relying on women?"

I couldn’t control my temper and tried to slap my wife. What I did not expect was she grabbed my hair and beat in response. She swore while beating me as well, and my neighbors had to come to help me escape.

That night, she collected her luggage and brought my son somewhere I don’t even know. All I know is that she recently called our landlord, asking to terminate the contract. She did not pay two months’ rent either.

I was confused, as she had always been kind and never behaved like that. I tried my best to save our expenses while looking for a job, so I feel really sad.

What should I do?
