My husband’s siblings have not repaid nearly $6,000 they borrowed from him

Having recently tied the knot, my husband and I started our family relatively late. During his extended period of bachelorhood, my husband managed to save some money, which he loaned to his older brother and sister more than a decade ago as they were starting their families.

Currently, both of my siblings-in-law are in stable financial situations, having bought their own homes and cars, yet I perceive a lack of intent on their part to repay the money they owe to my husband. Meanwhile, my husband, who is very sentimental and holds his siblings in high regard, does not appear to be inclined to request repayment, preferring to wait for them to do so when they are able instead.

While this money is considered a premarital asset of my husband and I have no desire to press for its return, it is disconcerting to see that his siblings have held onto the borrowed funds for such an extended period without making any effort to repay it, particularly as the value of money has significantly diminished over the years.

Having recently met them, I find that they are knowledgeable, amiable, and open, which makes me feel conflicted and reluctant to broach the subject of the loan.

What should I do now?
