Vietnamese actress and singer Ha Phuong’s film Finding Julia opened in U.S. theatres recently.

Ha Phuong, who wrote the original story and screenplay, also plays the leading role. The film’s plot was inspired by real events that happened around her, Phuong has said.

Julia is a Eurasian woman traumatized by her mother’s death. As Julia and her doting dad move to live in New York, she studies acting, nursing a dream to become a star actress like her mother, but runs into culture clashes and language barriers. Her problems are compounded by loneliness and insecurity after her dad gets married to another woman.

The film had premiered at the Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles in October 2017.

Ha Phuong, 47, is a Vietnamese singer and actress who currently resides in the U.S. She has released several music albums in Vietnam and the U.S. Some of her famous songs include Dong Song Va Noi Nho (The River And Nostalgia), and a song in English, Memories of Love.
