Centuries-old artifacts, modern paintings to be auctioned

The Arts du Asian (Asian Art) auction will be held at Hanoi's Sofitel Legend Metropole and Saigon's LA VELA Saigon Hotel.

According to PI Auction House, the auctioneer, collecting artifacts has always been common in Vietnamese culture.

The artworks include glazed ceramic lime pots and bowls from the time of the Ly (1009 - 1225) and Tran (1225 - 1400) dynasty eras, embroidery paintings from the Nguyen dynasty (1802 - 1945) era.

The modern paintings will include a watercolor on paper work, "Yen Bai Dam," by Tran Van Can (1910 - 1994) and oil on canvas works "Go To The Field" by Nguyen Tri Minh (1924 - 2010) and "Space 3" by Le Ba Dang (1921 - 2015).

In June 2020 PI Auction House has collaborated with France’s Drouot Digital to hold its first international art auction.

Many Vietnamese paintings have fetched record prices in the last few years.

In December 2020, a painting of a half-naked woman by renowned artist Le Pho was sold for €440,000 ($532,860) by French auction house Tajan.

Pho was the first Vietnamese artist to breach the million-dollar mark. His first painting to do so was "Family Life" sold by Sotheby's Hong Kong in 2017.
