Vietnamese singer Chi Pu wins silver in archery competition on Chinese show

Vietnamese singer Chi Pu captured fans' attention with her archery skills in a Chinese sports and entertainment show, winning a silver medal.

In the quarterfinals of the Super Novae Games, broadcast live on Tencent TV on Wednesday, Chi Pu represented her team, "Together, Definitely," in the women's archery competition. She scored 27 points, leading the 10 participants in this event.

Chi Pu advanced to the finals on Thursday, securing a silver medal in women's archery, finishing second among 10 artists. Chinese singer Sun Jia Lu won gold.

Chi Pu's archery performance attracted thousands of comments on Weibo, with a Sina's Weibo account noting: "You can't take your eyes off her. Chi Pu's performance was outstanding. She's truly impressive, and we're eagerly awaiting her next rounds."

Many viewers expressed surprise and admiration for Chi Pu's athletic skills, which helped her stand out in the show. Comments included: "Her movements are so graceful," and "Chi Pu has a sweet appearance, but when needed, she is decisive and assertive."

The fifth season of Super Novae Games, organized by Tencent TV, runs from Aug. 28 to 30 at Shanghai Gymnasium. Led by head coach Lang Ping, a renowned figure in Chinese sports, the show features nearly 100 participants, including actors and singers like Rainbow Xu, Chen Muchi, Liu Yu, and Sun Jia Lu. Divided into four teams, they compete in swimming, archery, dance, and basketball. Professional athletes coach each category, with gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded.

Beijing News praised the show for its fresh blend of sports and entertainment, highlighting team cohesion and promoting a positive sporting spirit.

Chi Pu, 31, is a singer and actress who is active in both Vietnam and China.

She has been participating in Chinese TV shows, and in October last year launched a Vietnamese pho restaurant in Shanghai, aiming to introduce the traditional rice noodle soup to more people across the globe.

Also in October, she performed at the 2023 Asian Youth Music Festival in Nanjing.
