According to The Straits Times, Sheh uploaded the image to her Instagram on Wednesday, one day after her birthday. In the post, she expressed profound gratitude and affection for her parents and shared how the past eighteen months, during which her mother has been unwell, taught her resilience.
"My mother’s daily smile warms my heart," Sheh stated in the caption. "This year, my birthday wish is for everyone to wish my mother good health alongside me."
Sheh continued in her Instagram post to reflect on the journey of life she has navigated.
"Each birthday reminds me to appreciate my parents for giving me life," she noted in her post. "Now at 49, I recognize my achievements, yet I see there is still much to do and learn."
Her caption further discussed her thoughts on growing older, illness, and mortality.
The Star noted that Sheh’s mother is reportedly in her 70s. She is said to have been dealing with a health issue that caused hair loss due to treatment.

Sheh’s father died when she was only five, leaving her mother to raise her and her siblings alone. In 2005, while Sheh was in China for an awards ceremony, she received news about her mother’s severe condition during surgery in the U.S., which led her to move her mother back to Hong Kong to ensure better medical care and to spend more time with her.
In 2018, as an act of filial devotion, Sheh bought a HK$25 million (US$3.2 million) house and a new car for her mother and also gave her HK$1 million in cash.
Sheh started her entertainment career in 1997 as the runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong pageant and rose to fame with TVB, featuring in popular series like "War and Beauty," "Beyond the Realm of Conscience," and "Forensic Heroes."
After departing TVB in 2016, she founded Charmaine Sheh Workshop Limited and broadened her career in China, earning praise for her role in the 2018 series "Story of Yanxi Palace."
In 2023, Sheh returned to TVB, appearing in "The Queen of News" and secured her third Best Actress award at the TVB Awards.
