According to Sina, the rumors surfaced following a leaked audio recording of two men, allegedly including Chinese actor Zhang Haowei, discussing Dai’s involvement with prostitutes. Zhang was reportedly heard stating that soliciting prostitution is "easy to understand" for men.

In response to these allegations, Dai issued a denial through his manager, questioning the truth of the claims: "Do you think that is true?"

Similarly, Zhang has also denied the allegations, asserting: ‘"I have never met Dai Xiangyu."

Zhang further explained that the recorded conversation occurred many years ago while he was joking with friends during a warm-up on a basketball court. He noted that he was unaware of the recording’s existence and suggested that the audio had been manipulated.

"The sound has been processed and edited," he said.
