Park, a pro golfer, shared the first position with Nguyen Anh Minh, a 15-year-old amateur who started with a bang after taking the top spot on the first day. It took him 71 strokes to finish the first round.
In the second round, Minh maintained great form with 70 strokes, but Park caught up to him as it only took him 67 strokes to finish the game. Park scored two bogeys, five birdies and one eagle, while Minh got six birdies and four bogeys. Right after Minh and Park came Canadian Brian Jung.
The women's event saw Nguyen Thao My retain the top spot with four bogeys and two birdies on the second day, leading second-placed Doan Xuan Khue Minh by seven strokes.
Both Anh Minh and Khue Minh are in the national golf team for SEA Games 31.
2022 Lexus Challenge, taking place at Trang An Golf Course in the northern province of Ninh Binh from March 8 to 12, is the first tournament hosted by Vietnam Golf Association this year. It attracted 134 golf players from pro to amateur levels – a record number of participants for a golf tournament in Vietnam.
For the first time ever, Lexus Challenge has hosted a division for women, creating a more fitting playground for female golfers instead of putting them in the same category as male players.
