Vietnam to host Syria on FIFA Days

Vietnam will play a friendly match against Syria on Tuesday at northern Nam Dinh Province's Thien Truong Stadium for FIFA Days, Vietnam Football Federation announced.

It is the second match of this kind of the national football team under coach Philippe Troussier. Earlier, the team won 1-0 in a friendly against Hong Kong (China).

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Syria’s coach Hector Cuper spoke highly of their opponent in the upcoming game, adding that Vietnamese football has significantly progressed over the past years and the team have been on a right track to the future.

For his part, Philippe Troussier revealed that he has called six more players to join the national team.

Syria are ranked 90th in the world rankings, five places above Vietnam.

Vietnam have played Syria three times since 2009. The team won one, drew one and lost one. In their latest encounter in 2016, Vietnam won 2-0.
