Lam announced on Monday that he had completed his rehab exercises in Vietnam under the guidance of Ryo Asano - a renowned Japanese rehabilitation specialist and athlete trainer who has assisted many Japanese and international stars in recovering from injuries. The keeper noted that Asano helped him not only recover from his injury but also improve many other physical aspects.
The 30-year-old sustained an injury to his Achilles tendon during a V-League game on Dec. 27, 2023, ruling him out of the 2023 Asian Cup.
Lam and his girlfriend Yen Xuan went to Singapore for treatment in January, but he will not recover in time to join the Vietnam national team for the two matches against Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup second qualifiers on March 21 and March 26.

Lam was born to a Vietnamese father and a Russian mother. He spent his youth career at Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow. In 2011, he returned to Vietnam to play for Hoang Anh Gia Lai. After unsuccessful spells in Laos and Russia, his career finally took off when he joined Hai Phong FC in 2015.
Over the next few years, he attained excellent form, was called up to the national team, and became their number one choice.
Ever since Lam's absence, Binh Dinh FC have not managed to keep a clean sheet in the V-League, earning one win, two draws, and one loss. Meanwhile, his national team replacement Nguyen Filip was in decent form at the 2023 Asian Cup. It is hoped Filip can maintain a high level to help Vietnam achieve good results in the upcoming two matches against Indonesia.
If things go well, Lam is expected to return for Binh Dinh FC in their home game against HCMC FC on March 31. Binh Dinh are currently in 5th place with 21 points in 13 matches, trailing league leaders Nam Dinh FC by 8 points.
