Vietnam lost to Myanmar 3-4 in the third-place playoff of the AFF Women's Championship Sunday, losing their chance to win a bronze.

After losing to the Philippines in the semifinal, coach Mai Duc Chung said he would focus on helping his wards regain their best physical and mental state. Vietnam should at least secure a bronze, especially as they had already defeated Myanmar four times and tied one time in their last five matches, including a 4-0 win in a qualifying match.

But Vietnam put in a less-than-satisfactory performance right from the beginning, allowing Myanmar to score the first goal in the ninth minute. Also, many key players sat on the bench for the match.

After conceding a goal, Vietnam went on the offensive and the continuous pressure on Myanmar paid results with a 24' equalizer and pushed into the lead with a goal in the 39th minute. However, Myanmar struck back with a 58' equalizer. Chung made some changes to step up the pressure on the opponents and this saw Vietnam score another goal in the 81st minute.

But in the next seven minutes, Myanmar scored twice to secure final victory and the third place.

In the final, hosts Philippines clinched their maiden AFF Women's Championship title after beating Thailand 3-0.
