The Football Association of Thailand has been fined US$60,000 for letting home fans light flares during the quarterfinals of the 2023 U17 Asian Cup earlier this year.

Thailand suffered a 1-4 loss to South Korea in the match played at the Pathum Thani Stadium on June 26.

The Asian Football Confederation has also warned Thailand the penalty would be increased if there is a repeat of the act.

The association (FAT) had to pay a $70,000 fine after Thai fans lit flares at the Asian Beach Football Championship in March this year.

FAT paid $20,000 for the same violation at the 2022 AFF Cup when Thailand beat Philippines 4-0 in the group stage.

FAT has condemned fans for lighting flares and asked the police to investigate and identify the offenders.

But it has been in vain so far.

AFC also warned it might ban Thailand from hosting international tournaments if the situation persists.

Thailand was fined $14,000 for its players' brawls with their Indonesian opponents in the SEA Games 32 football final in May, taking the total penalties for the year so far to $164,000.
