After Spain won the Women's World Cup in Sydney on Aug. 20, Spanish football federation chief Luis Rubiales sparked a massive backlash after forcibly kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the medal ceremony.
Rubiales could face further domestic sanctions as prosecutors at the country's top criminal court said on Monday they had opened a preliminary investigation on the grounds his actions could constitute a crime of "sexual assault."
