Cach Shin Tae-yong said the momentum from the two recent victories over Vietnam and current squad power give Indonesia a great chance to win again in the 2026 World Cup qualifier clash on Tuesday.

"Tomorrow's match will be difficult because we have to play away from home. But Indonesia are preparing to beat Vietnam again," Shin said at a press conference in Hanoi on Monday.

Coach Shin never gained a victory over Vietnam under coach Park Hang-seo. The last time Indonesia played at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, they lost 0-2 to Vietnam in the 2022 AFF Cup semifinals.

However, after coach Park was replaced by Philippe Trousser, Shin began to gain better results. In the last two encounters, Indonesia beat Vietnam with the same score of 1-0, in the 2023 Asian Cup group stage in January and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers last week.

Indonesia have also transformed thanks to a group of naturalized players from Europe. In the 1-0 win at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium last Thursday, although two domestic players made the goal, the naturalized players left a very clear mark on Indonesia's playing style. Thanks to them, Indonesia calmly kept possession and didn’t get carried away by Vietnam's style of stay like in previous encounters.

Coach Shin is thus confident in his first victory at My Dinh Stadium.

"In the 2022 AFF Cup, we lost because many players were young and inexperienced. The situation is different now. My players have more experience and quality, and the two recent wins against Vietnam are the proof," he said.

The South Korean coach also disregarded the face that Indonesia haven’t won against Vietnam at My Dinh for 20 years.

"All numbers and statistics exist just to be broken and altered. This time, I believe Indonesia will beat Vietnam on their field," Shin said.

The game between Vietnam and Indonesia will be report live by VnExpress International from 7 p.m. (Hanoi time).
