Tourists poisoned after eating famous bread in Hoi An

As of Tuesday night, 26 people are being treated at hospitals with signs of high fever, vomiting and abdominal pain after eating at the Ms. Phuong stall.

Five other patients with mild symptoms received medical care at home, according to Hoi An Medical Center.

The patients said they bought bread from the stall on Phan Chu Trinh Street in Minh An Ward between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday. The first patient showed symptoms of poisoning at 11 a.m. the same day.

The interval from eating until symptoms appeared was at least two hours.

On Tuesday, Hoi An City Medical Center inspected the stall and took relevant food samples to be sent to the Quang Nam Food Safety and Hygiene Department for testing.

Test results have not yet been released.

City officials asked the stall to suspend operations on Wednesday.

Ms. Phuong's banh mi stall in Hoi An is well known among tourists and has often received rave reviews from international media.
