K-pop boy band with Vietnamese member wins big at Hanteo Music Awards

K-pop group TEMPEST with its Vietnamese member Hanbin won three categories at the 2022 Hanteo Music Awards in Seoul.

TEMPEST, a rookie group, surprised the event on Saturday evening at Jamsil Gymnasium with victories in three categories: Rookie of the Year (for male artists), Global Artist (China region) and Global Artist (Japan region).

The group was among the artists with the most wins at the event. It also impressed the audience with its energetic performances. The group made the stage explode when covering BIGBANG's hit "Fantastic Baby."

TEMPEST, managed by Yuehua Entertainment, debut in March 2022 and is considered one of the most notable K-pop rookies of last year. The group consists of seven talented members: Hanbin, Ahn Hyeong Seop, Koo Bon-hyuk, Lee Eui-woong, Hwa Rang, Eun Chan and Kim Tae-rae.

Nearly a year after their debut, TEMPEST has won awards such as the Genie Music Awards, Asia Artist Award, Seoul Music Awards and most recently the Hanteo Music Awards.

In addition to TEMPEST, the 2022 Hanteo Music Awards also boasts many artists with outstanding and contributions to the South Korean music industry in the past year. The main categories of the Hanteo Music Awards 2022 were Best Artist (BTS), Best Song (BTS), Best Album (NCT Dream), and Best Performance (Stray Kids).

Hanbin, real name Ngo Ngoc Hung, was well-known in the K-pop dance community in Vietnam and a leader of the group C.A.C., which won the 2018 Vietnam Kpop random dance in public contest.

In 2020 Hanbin was attracted attention when he participated in I-Land, the reality show devised by Big Hit Entertainment, the company that manages the famous boy band BTS.

He was considered one of the top contenders and got a lot of public votes for his looks and impressive choreography. Hanbin joined Yuehua Entertainment as a trainee before having his debut with TEMPEST.
