Hundreds of police officers raided a drug lab in HCMC Tuesday and arrested 16 people for allegedly making dozens of kilograms of narcotics.

Lam Huynh Minh Man and Le Ngoc Thanh, both 40, Pham Ngoc Duc, 35, and 13 others will be investigated for illegally possessing, transporting, trading, and using narcotics, transporting counterfeit money and possessing military weapons.

The Binh Thanh District police had earlier discovered Duc and his accomplices pushing drugs, but knew he was only a subordinate and was getting the drugs from somewhere else.

They worked with the District 8 police to investigate the case.

They said Man and Thanh were the masterminds in the manufacture of several drugs.

"The pair is very brazen, always using guns to settle conflicts with rival gangs and fight back against police officers," one officer said.

After monitoring the gang for a while, the police caught Duc red-handed with evidence.

Another team of officers secretly approached and incapacitated Man, Thanh and the other accomplices.

A raid at 11 locations, including warehouses and homes, turned up around 10 kg of drugs, fake currency bills, two guns, and 30 bullets.

At the facility that Man ran they found five kilograms of chemicals used to make drugs and tools and equipment.
