Ride-hailing and delivery company Gojek has appointed Sumit Rathor as the new general manager of its Vietnam operation.

Rathor takes over from Duc Phung, co-founder and former general manager of Gojek Vietnam since 2020, who has chosen to seek new professional challenges outside the organization, according to a company statement.

With more than 20 years’ experience in strategy, operations and finance, Rathor joined Gojek in 2019 as regional head of Gojek Indonesia.

He relocated to Vietnam in 2022 to lead merchant, marketing and strategy functions, bringing extensive knowledge and hands-on expertise in maximizing human capital in technology-driven environments to deliver increasing value for stakeholders.

"Vietnam is an important and vibrant market for Gojek, and our agile nature combined with deep hyperlocal understanding means we are perfectly placed to capitalize on this potential, building on our strong progress to date," Rathor said.

During his tenure managing Indonesian territories, Sumit played a pivotal role in strengthening Gojek’s market share and ensuring the resilience and recovery of the business during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gojek, which launched its operations in Vietnam in 2018, is now connecting more than 200,000 drivers and tens of thousands of food merchants to millions of users through services, including transportation, food delivery, and logistics.

The company has had four general managers in Vietnam in more than four years operating here, including co-founder Nguyen Vu Duc and former Facebook Vietnam director Le Diep Kieu Trang.
