Prices of Ri6 and Monthong durians increased on Monday in the Mekong Delta and Central Highlands, Vietnam's largest durian producers.

Highest-grade Ri6 durians are sold at VND163,000 (US$6.45) per kilogram in the Mekong Delta, up 1.9% from the weekend. Their prices were stabled at VND160,000 per kilogram in the Central Highlands.

Monthong durian prices rose by 2.9% to VND175,000 per kilogram in the Central Highlands while holding firm at the same price in the Mekong Delta.

For exports, prices of the Ri6 variety and the Thai cultivar held firm at VND152,000 and VND179,000 per kilogram, respectively.

Demand for the fruit has been rising in the international market, with eight markets ramping up imports of Vietnamese durian this year.

Vietnam’s exports of the fruit fetched over US$2.8 billion in the first nine months, up 63% from a year earlier, marking the highest ever for this period.
