The European Union will begin testing frozen and fresh durian imported from Vietnam for pesticide residues starting in February.

It will examine 10% of consignments as part of efforts to increase food safety, according to the European Commission.

Chili and instant noodles shipments from Vietnam will also be subject to examination from February at 50% and 20% rates.

Okra and dragon fruit continue to be tested at 50% and 20%.

The latest regulations include heightened examinations of over 100 products from 27 countries.

Vietnam exported nearly $2.2 billion worth of durian in the first 11 months of last year, up 4.8 times from 2022, to China and 20 other markets.

Some European markets such as Czechia and France saw huge jumps in imports.
