A learner has to pay VND18-20 million to eventually get a class B1 and B2 car driving license.
B1 is for cars with up to nine seats and weighing below 3.5 tons, and B2 is for vehicles with special purposes.
In addition to the exam and driving license fees of VND765,000 (theoretical test VND100,000, physical exam VND350,000, road test VND80,000, test using simulation software VND100,000, and license issuance VND135,000), learners have to pay the centers’ fees, car rental and for instructors.
In HCMC, some self-proclaimed "high-end" centers charge over VND30 million.
The fee depends on the training facilities and location, and the number of learners in a session.
A training center said the increase was due to a change in curriculum.
According to new regulations issued by the Ministry of Transport, learners have to complete a total of 84 hours of practice, including three hours in a simulator.
Investing in new equipment such as simulators cabins has driven up the cost of lessons, the center said.
A motorbike riding license costs VND500,000 to VND2 million depending on engine size.
