This year's winter-spring crop in the Mekong Delta has experienced a massive downfall in both output and productivity due to the historic drought, according to a report from the General Statistics Office (GSO) released today.

Rice output from the 2015-2016 winter-spring crop slumped by about 700,000 tons, and productivity decreased by 4 tons per hectare compared to last year.

Approximately 142,000 hectares of rice was severely damaged by the drought.

Among the Mekong Delta provinces, Kien Giang suffered the most significant losses to its rice crop.
