Conglomerate Vingroup has appointed its vice chairwoman, Le Thi Thu Thuy, as the new CEO of auto subsidiary VinFast Global.

She takes over from German Michael Lohscheller, who will return to Europe for personal reasons after five months at the job, and will directly manage VinFast’s business in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands and other markets.

VinFast is on the path to becoming a successful global electric company, the outgoing CEO said.

Before joining the Vietnamese company, Thuy, 47, had been vice president of Lehman Brothers in charge of Japan, Thailand and Singapore.

VinFast, established in 2017, is the first full-fledged automaker in the country.

It recently delivered its first electric cars to Vietnamese customers, and plans to sell them in the U.S. next year.
