Vietnam Airlines begins work on $69M catering, aircraft maintenance projects at new airport

Vietnam Airlines has broken ground on projects at the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport for in-flight catering and aircraft maintenance services estimated to cost VND1.8 trillion (US$69 million).

The facilities will be built by the airline’s subsidiaries, Vietnam Airlines Caterers and Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company.

The former will have an initial capacity of 20,000 meals per day and the potential to scale up to 40,000,

The maintenance project, set to be built on a site measuring over 45,000 square meters at a cost of VND1.1 trillion, will be able to service two wide-body and two narrow-body aircraft simultaneously.

It will have a minimum annual maintenance capacity of 250,000 man-hours and is expected to complete 120-150 maintenance sessions per year.

Another subsidiary, Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company, earlier began work on a ground equipment maintenance facility at the airport.

The carrier operates a wide range of aviation services with facilities at airports across the country.

Long Thanh International Airport in the southern Dong Nai Province will span 5,000 hectares and cost an estimated VND336.6 trillion.

Its first phase, scheduled for completion in 2026, involves the construction of a runway, a passenger terminal and supporting facilities and have a capacity of 25 million passengers a year.
