Hernan Corporation, Malaysia’s largest durian exporter, aims to ship 30,000 tons to China over the next five years to meeting increasing demand there.

The company plans to invest MYR30-50 million (US$6.4-10.6 million) in the next three years to build two new durian processing factories in Malaysia to pump up exports, said commercial director Yang Hon Shung, according to a report by Malaysian national news agency Bernama.

"Last year alone China imported 1.3 million tons of durian, with demand expected to grow annually by 5-6%".

He added that Chinese buyers enjoy Musang King and Black Thorn, which are famous durian varieties originated from Malaysia.

Yang also said that Hernan eyes to expand into the Indian and Indonesian markets.

Hernan exports to 22 countries, including Australia, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam.
