Salaries in Vietnam's police force have increased to up to VND24.33 million (US$955.80) per month following a base salary raise for government employees from July 1.

The base salary for government employees, including officials, civil servants, and armed forces, was raised by 30% to VND2.34 million (US$92).

The highest salary in the police force, which goes to a general, has thus been raised to VND24.33 million per month, excluding allowances.

The lowest salary is for a corporal, at over VND7.48 million.

Accordingly, the police salary is calculated by multiplying the salary coefficient by VND2.34 million.

Under the new salary regime, a colonel general's salary sits at VND22.9 million and that of a lieutenant general at VND21.5 million, and VND20.1 million for a major general.

The Law on People's Public Security Forces stipulates that there is one general in the force, seven lieutenant generals, and no more than 162 major generals.

In addition to the monthly salary, police officers receive seniority allowances based on the current salary level and service time, plus official duty allowances and leadership position allowances.

The allowances for police officers are calculated by multiplying the allowance coefficient by the base salary.
