Japan's retailer Daiso Industries plans to open 50 stores in India by February 2027 and 200 stores there eventually.

The company, which sells most products at around US$1-2, eyes to make India its third largest market after Japan and the U.S., Nikkei Asia reported.

Daiso opened its first store in India in 2022 and now has fewer than 10 outlets there.

The company was established in 1972 and became popular for selling many household items and toys at prices of JPY100.

It sources 70% of its products from China and other countries.

Daiso posted a record high revenue of almost JPY625 billion (US$4.3 billion) in fiscal 2023. It has 5,300 stores globally.
