HCMC tells schools not to hike fees

A number of international schools earlier announced plans to hike fees. The municipal people’s committee has said socioeconomic stability is a priority, and education is one of the top concerns.

In May, 1,170 people whose children are studying at the Asian International School wrote a letter protesting the school’s decision to increase tuitions.

Currently, there are more than 1,000 private schools in the city, including 900 kindergartens, and 20 of them are foreign owned.

Boarding and semi-boarding schools charge VND5-8 million ($218-349) a month in tuitions, with some going up to VND20-50 million. International schools charge VND20-60 million per month.
