Construction has started for the Phu Tho circus and multi-purpose performance project in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 11, with an investment of VND1.4 trillion ($59.6 million).

It is the largest budget ever for a circus and multi-purpose performance center in the country. Construction started on Tuesday.

Located next to Phu Tho Gymnasium, the center will consist of two underground floors with a ground area of over 10,000 square meters and 12 floors, which a height of up to 57 m.

The main auditorium will have 2,000 seats, including a portable round and rectangular stage, creating a multi-purpose area for different programs.

The stage is designed to suit many art forms like classical performances, animal circuses and figure skating. There is also a portable stage in the back for transitions.

Nguyen Van Truong, deputy director of HCMC Project Management of Civil and Industrial Construction, said the center was designed to be used for 100 years. It will be a place to perform, an art training center and a location to organize cultural and sports events. It is expected to be completed in April 2025.
