Vietnam lose 2-3 to Indonesia in U20 Asian Cup qualifiers

Vietnam lost 2-3 to host Indonesia on Sunday but won a slot in the U20 Asian Cup as one of the best second-placed teams.

    Vietnam lost 2-3 to host Indonesia in the last game of group F in U20 Asian Cup qualifiers and had to wait for the results of matches in other groups to know their fate.

    They were later deemed as one of the five best second-placed teams, out of 10 groups.

    Shortly after letting Vietnam score, Indonesia equalized. From a corner, captain Ferrari headed a good ball into the net.

    Anh Tu accelerated down the left flank and passed inside for Thanh Nhan, who held the ball well to pass for an open Dinh Xuan Tien and this midfielder calmly finish to get Vietnam ahead.

    Indonesia kept pushing forward after Vietnam's equalizer and they even subbed out three defenders for three attackers to seek another goal.

Both Vietnam and Indonesia had six points and equal goal differences before encountering in last game of group F. Although Indonesia have a better fair-play index, it won't be used for ranking. Therefore, if the two teams draw in this game, a penalty shootout will decide the first place of group F, which is also the direct qualification for the 2023 U20 Asian Cup.

Of course, both teams don't want to enter the penalties as they want to get it done within 90 minutes. Indonesia have a huge advantage, which is to play at their home ground.

In case Vietnam lose to Indonesia, they can still have the chance to qualify as one of the best second-placed teams.
