Vietnam beat Thailand in penalty shootout to win U19 AFF Championship bronze

Vietnam beat Thailand 5-3 in the penalty shootout and claimed third place in the 2022 U19 AFF Championship on Friday.

    Nguyen Dinh Bac converted the last penalty to help Vietnam win 5-3 and claimed third place in U19 AFF Championship.

    While Nhat Minh succeeded on the spot, Chanapach failed to score against keeper Van Binh and Vietnam got ahead.

  • Vietnam captain Khuat Van Khang converted the penalty and helped Vietnam get ahead.

    Kroekphon equalized for Thailand in the penalty shootout.

    Van Truong missed his shot but he was allowed to retake the penalty after Thailand keeper came out of his line. Truong succeeded the second time and Seksan also converted his penalty, putting the score to 2-2.

    Nine minutes after coming on, Nguyen Quoc Viet scored for Vietnam after beating keeper Chommaphat one on one. This is his fifth goal in the U19 AFF Championship, making him the top goal scorer of the tournament.

Both Vietnam and Thailand suffered disappointing losses in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Vietnam lost 0-3 to Malaysia while Thailand were 0-2 down to Laos, to everyone's surprise. This game is a chance for both teams to redeem a mediocre tournament.
