Vietnam women's football team won 2-0 against Myanmar on Monday and became the first team in SEA Games history to claim the gold medal in four consecutive tournaments.

Both Vietnam and Myanmar started the game at a high pace. However, the tie was quickly broken in the 12th minute when a long pass found Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung at a good position, facing goalkeeper Mya Nyein.

Dung quickly made a pass for captain Huynh Nhu, who easily finished into the empty net and gave Vietnam the lead.

Myanmar responded right after conceding with a freekick by Mon Myint that hit the bar. They also made two early substitutions to increase pressure on Vietnam. However, Vietnam’s defense was solid and the lead was maintained until halftime.

In the second half, Myanmar tried to apply pressure again but their chances were not relevant. To deal with the pressure, Vietnam put two substitutions in and one of them made a difference. In the 76th minute, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha with her pace and energy sprinted down the right flank before pulling off a beautiful long chip over the goalkeeper’s head.

The remaining time saw Myanmar players getting fewer chances as their stamina ran low.

Vietnam kept a clean sheet and won 2-0, becoming the first women’s football team to claim the SEA Games gold medal in four consecutive tournaments.
