Vietnam struggled to find a way to Guam’s goal in the first 30 minutes as the visitors set up a multi-layer defense.
Vietnamese attackers were not in tune, especially Le Van Do and Nguyen Van Tung, who missed many chances. With a large number of defenders inside the box, Vietnam had no choice but to attack from the flanks.
In one attack like that, Nguyen Thanh Nhan passed it inside the box for Van Do to tap it in for Vietnam.
After breaking the tie, Vietnam players still had difficulty breaking through the defense of Guam and the first half ended with only one goal scored.
In the second half, Vietnam put on a different face and the substitution Ho Van Cuong contributed a lot to that. He scored the third goal in the 68th minute with a run and finish like a striker. Before that was a penalty converted by Van Tung in the 54th minute.
With a three goal lead, Vietnam continued to put pressure on a stamina-drained Guam and scored three more goals in the remaining time, including a second penalty shot.
The 6-0 win put Vietnam on top of group C before facing Yemen in the next round on Saturday.
