Vietnam lost their second game at AFC Asian Cup on Saturday against Iran, the number one team in Asia according to FIFA rankings.
Forward Sardar Azmoun scored from a header in the 38th minute and had a simple finish thanks to a defense mistake from Vietnam in the 69th minute.
Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam had a busy game saving repeated attacks from Iran, compared to three chances from Vietnam, including a free kick.
Vietnam entered the game pledging to go all out as they hoped for a chance to go further in the tournament, after losing 2-3 in their first game with Iraq. Their next and final group stage match will be with Yemen next Wednesday.
