Vietnam national football team had a good start under coach Philippe Troussier with their win against Hong Kong. However, the team still have many things to improve and need time to adapt to Troussier’s tactics.
Despite playing possession game and high-press football, Vietnam struggled to create relevant scoring chances. While the attackers were still trying to find a way to goal, the defenders lost focus, as they gave Hong Kong players a lot of opportunities. If it wasn’t for the talent of goalkeeper Dang Van Lam and the woodwork, Vietnam would have conceded several times.
The only goal came to Vietnam in the 32nd minute when Nguyen Quang Hai penetrated the box before getting fouled and brought the home team a penalty. From the spot, captain Que Ngoc Hai calmly slotted it in to open the scoring for Vietnam. In the remaining minutes, Vietnam made many substitutions using young players. They were able to create a few chances but couldn’t turn them into goals.
The game ended with a 1-0 victory for Vietnam, their first win under coach Troussier.
Vietnam will play another friendly against Syria on June 20.
