Vietnam conceded an early goal but came back to earn an equalizer in their last group game against Thailand at SEA Games Thursday.

Vietnam’s ambition of winning against Thailand was challenged as they conceded early in the third minute, when Luong Duy Cuong slipped and created a chance for Achitpol Keereerom to dribbled past goalkeeper Doan Huy Hoang before finishing into the empty net.

After the opening goal, Thailand played slow while Vietnam increased the pressure, but only create a few relevant chances and had difficulty in finding the way into Thailand’s box.

In the second half, coach Philippe Troussier made some substitutions and Vietnam were able to play the way they wanted. After constantly pressing on Thailand, the equalizer came in the 54th minute. After a series of passes and shots starting from a freekick, the ball found Le Quoc Nhat Nam, who scored with a tap-in. This goal got the spirit of Vietnam players even higher.

They created many good scoring chances and did not let Thailand attack for 30 minutes, but could not find another goal.

The 1-1 draw couldn’t take Vietnam to the top spot of group B and they will face group A topper Indonesia in the semifinals on Saturday.
