Vietnam have moved up five places to 109th in the FIFA rankings for April, their biggest jump in 7 years.

This improvement is mainly thanks to the accumulated points from the wins over Cambodia in FIFA Days friendlies and Laos in 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, along with important victories at the end of 2024, especially against Thailand in ASEAN Cup finals.

These results helped Vietnam gain 19.04 points, bringing them closer to the FIFA Top 100.

This is their highest position since February 2024, when the team were at 105th. Five places are also Vietnam's biggest jump since August 2018, when they climbed from 107 to 102 without playing any matches. The squad, under coach Park Hang-seo, then enter FIFA Top 100, rising to as high as 92nd.

Vietnam's biggest jump in the history was 38 places in January 2007, under late coach Alfred Riedl, from 172nd to 134th. Earlier they also achieved their highest rank with Riedl, at 84th in Septemnber 1998.

Despite climbing five places, the Vietnamese team are not the one with the biggest leap in Southeast Asia. Myanmar are the team with the most impressive breakthrough when they moved seven places, to 162nd.

Indonesia and the Philippines also made progress when they both climbed four places, ranking 123rd and 146th. Malaysia jumped only one step to 132nd in the world.

Meanwhile, Thailand dropped two notches to 99th globally after struggling in their recent international matches. However, Thailand remained the highest-ranked team in Southeast Asia.

FIFA is scheduled to announce its following rankings update in July.
