People living in alleys off Me Suot and Hoang Van Thai Street in Da Nang's Lieu Chieu District leave their homes for higher ground on Tuesday morning.
Nearly 5,000 people in the area had been evacuated on Friday night after heavy rains caused waters to rise to up to 1.5 meters. They returned home on Monday morning, but more than 1,000 had to be evacuated again on Tuesday after four hours of heavy rain.
Bui Trung Khanh, chairman of Hoa Khanh Nam Ward of Lien Chieu District, said most people moved to their neighbors' houses on higher ground. Others were taken to government offices and provided food.
Nguyen Van Minh, 50, and his wife Tran Thi Hien, 45, sit on their bed surrounded by floodwaters. They only managed to keep a few items dry, including some bowls to eat instant noodles with.
"The water receded yesterday morning, so people were cleaning up and taking their belongings down off the high shelves. But it poured heavily around 3 a.m. today and water flooded houses again," Minh said.
Dogs stay above the floodwaters on a family's set of table and chairs, which were also utilized to secure a motorbike and the family's earth deity altar, which normally stays on the ground.
This woman refused to be evacuated although her house kitchen was under half a meter of water. "I’m staying home so I can cook because he power is still on," she said.
But police managed to persuade her to leave after 10 minutes, carrying her and her granddaughter away from the flooded area.
They then waited out the floods at the ward police's headquarters.
Le Thi Thu Thuy (R), 62, sits at her neighbor's house.
"I returned to my house yesterday afternoon and had not yet finished cleaning it up when the floods came again."
The alley in front of her house was flooded by 2.2 meters underwater early on Saturday, and Thuy and 11 members of her family had to be rescued by local police.
