The 2020 Miss Universe Thailand Amanda Obdam donned an ao dai by designer Vo Viet Chung during a trip to Vietnam.

Obdam flew from Bangkok to HCMC on Tuesday and excited local fans with her outfit, a handmade ao dai featuring embroidered birds and roses.

"I want to show my love and respect for Vietnam, so I chose the country’s traditional costume," Obdam said.

Designer Chung said Obdam liked the idea of wearing ao dai when he suggested it to her. Chung will also invite Obdam to be the muse for his upcoming collection.

Obdam came to Vietnam to attend a pre-event of the 2023 Miss Ocean World pageant, set to start on Wednesday in HCMC.

This is Obdam’s second visit to Vietnam after her first in June 2022.

She said she was impressed with the landscape of Vietnam, the hospitality and friendliness of everyone she met. She also wanted to experience the culture of different regions across the country.
