A TikTok video of a Mekong Delta bride wearing nearly 50 taels of gold at an engagement party has gone viral this week.

The minute-long video was jokingly captioned: "The 50-tael golden bride of the day looks tired. It must have been the pressure of marriage." A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces.

Her neck, wrists and arms were all covered in gold. The jewelry was heavy, but the bride also wore a happy smile.

The video quickly garnered nearly two million views and took several social media platforms in Vietnam by storm, attracted hundreds of thousands of positive reactions and comments.

"If getting married is a burden, I’d chose this kind of burden," commented user Nhu Thao.

"I’ll share this video because I want to be covered in gold like the bride," added user Truc Hanh in the comments section.

Nguyen Minh Tri, who uploaded the original video, said it was recorded in early December by his photography company Kha Studio in Can Tho, the delta’s commercial hub.

"We were surprised to see the bride gifted that much gold from both sides of the new family," Tri told Thanh Nien Newspaper.

Tri said the families gave the couple gold necklaces, bracelets, rings, bars -- and the bride wore them all. He said the gold totaled about 50 taels. The couple also received cash and diamonds as wedding gifts.

The Bride in the video is 23-year-old Huynh Nhu. She said the positive comments and blessings from people online made her important day even more special. According to Nhu, the couple had been dating for four years before the engagement ceremony.

"I feel delighted by the comments and the blessings for my family. To receive such huge gifts is true happiness because our parents really love us. We don’t know what to say other than to thank our parents of both families," Nhu said.
