Stefan Claudio Specogna, a 32-year-old Swiss man volunteering in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, was forced to amputate his own arm after a black bear bit him.

The incident occurred on Jan. 25 when Specogna was feeding the bear by reaching into its cage, and it latched onto his arm, as reported by the Bangkok Post.

In a desperate attempt to free himself and fearing for his life, Specogna used a knife to sever his arm from the bear's grasp.

He was later moved to a private hospital in Chiang Mai, the region's largest city, as per The Sun’s report.

The missing part of the arm was found in a shredded condition.
