Sherika De Armas, first runner-up of the 2015 Miss Uruguay pageant, has died of cervical cancer at 26.

According to the New York Post, the beauty queen passed away after a two-year fight with cervical cancer. Her brother delivered the news on his social media account, writing: "Fly high, little sister. Always and forever."

De Armas’ close friends and acquaintances, including the reigning Miss Uruguay Carla Romero, paid emotional tributes to the late beauty queen following his announcement.

Representing her country at the 2015 Miss World pageant, De Armas impressed the pageant’s judge panel with her appearance and personality, despite not being able to make it to the top 30, reported CNBC TV18.

She had been operating her own business selling beauty products and working as a volunteer at the Pérez Scremini Foundation, an organization that helps child cancer patients, after her participation in the contest.
