The Malaysian government has announced that tourists from China and India will be allowed 30-day visa-free entry from Dec. 1 as part of its tourism and economic revival efforts.

Now tourists from China can get a 15-day visa-on-arrival.

Before the pandemic China was the country's third largest source of tourists, with around 3.1 million of them visiting in 2019, according to data from Tourism Malaysia.

China is also set to allow Malaysians visa-free stays of up to 15 days starting Dec. 1.

Southeast Asia has recently emerged as a favored destination for Indian tourists, and Malaysia is the third Asian country after Sri Lanka and Thailand to allow them visa-free travel.

Vietnamese tourism businesses and officials are also calling for waiving visas for tourists from China and India as the regional tourism race heats up.
