The volume of international searches on Vietnam's tourism after reopening has surged by 50-70 percent, the fourth highest growth in the world after Greece, Italy and the Philippines.

Ten countries with the highest number of searches on Vietnam tourism were the U.S., Singapore, Australia, Japan, India, France, Germany, Thailand, Canada and the U.K., the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said Monday, citing data from Google's Destination Insights.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's busiest metropolis, was the most searched destination by international visitors, followed by Hanoi, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang.

Data from Google showed the international search volume for flights increased by three times between March and May.

The search volume for accommodation in Vietnam also increased more than four times from the beginning of April to mid-May.

On March 15 the government allowed quarantine-free entry and resumed its visa waiver for citizens of 24 countries, including Japan, South Korea and some European ones.

It has also removed most other entry restrictions like medical declaration and Covid tests.

In the first five months of this year the country received 365,000 foreign visitors, according to the General Statistics Office.
