Vietnam Airlines 9th most punctual carrier in Asia-Pacific

Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways claimed the top position with an on-time performance rate of 82.75%, followed by Japan Airlines (82.58%), according to a report from travel data analytics firm Cirium.

Thailand’s Thai AirAsia came in third with an on-time performance rate of 82.52%, followed by India’s budget carrier IndiGo (82.12%) and Air New Zealand (79,68%).

The rest of the top 10 were Garuda Indonesia at 76.7%, Singapore Airlines (78.57%), Philippines Airlines (77.46%) and Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific (76.32%).

Cirium compiled the list by analyzing 600 sources of real-time flight information, ensuring accuracy from airports, air navigation service providers, global distribution systems, airlines, positional data, civil aviation authorities, the Internet, and proprietary data partnerships.

Globally, the most punctual airline last year was Colombia’s Avianca Airlines, which achieved an 85.73% on-time performance rate, followed by Brazil’s Azul Airlines (85.51%), and Qatar Airways (85.11%).

An airline’s on-time performance is calculated by whether the plane arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time and if it departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time, Cirium said.

Last year, Vietnam Airlines became the only Vietnamese representative to break into a global ranking of the 10 best carriers in the world thanks to seat comfort and quality of staff service, according to U.S.-based luggage storage company Bounce.
