Police have identified the deceased as Vislawath Shankar, a city-based tourist guide who frequently escorted visitors around Hyderabad, Times of India reported.
According to the police, Shankar booked 22 air-conditioned rooms at a hotel for a group of tourists from Gujarat on Oct. 21.
The following morning, during checkout, a dispute arose when Shankar reportedly paid 600 rupees (US$6.80) less than the billed amount, The Hindu reported.
The altercation escalated, and four hotel staff members allegedly attacked him.
Shankar received first aid at a local hospital and returned home, but later fell unconscious on Oct. 26.
His family rushed him to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Further investigation is underway.
